COMMUNITY KINDNESS PROGRAM

Our mission + purpose

The Community Kindness Program began with a clear and compassionate

mission: to provide temporary support to families and individuals facing challenging

circumstances within our community. Recognizing that unexpected hardships can

arise at any moment, the fund serves as a lifeline for those who need immediate

assistance to navigate difficult times. Our goal is not only to address urgent needs

but also to empower recipients to build a stronger foundation for the future by

connecting them with additional resources and supportive networks.

The heart of the program is to spread love, meet practical needs, and encourage others to get involved in serving their neighbors. What started small has begun to blossom into a movement, and we're excited to see how the Community Kindness Program continues to grow.

A Holistic approach to community care

The Community Kindness Program goes beyond immediate financial assistance by adopting a holistic approach that addresses both the short-term and long-term needs of those we serve. Our aim is to empower individuals and families to achieve lasting stability through:

Connection to Resources:

We actively connect recipients with additional services, such as financial counseling, vocational training, and healthcare resources, to address the root causes of their challenges.

Supportive Networks:

By linking individuals to community organizations, nonprofits, and local businesses, we help them build a support system that extends beyond the initial assistance provided by the fund.

Education and Empowerment:

We promote healthy financial habits and provide guidance on accessing and utilizing

community resources, helping recipients build a more secure and self-reliant future.

Areas of support

The Community Kindness Program is designed to be flexible and responsive, offering assistance across several critical areas that directly impact the well-being and stability of individuals and families.

Utility Bills:

Objective: Ensure that families have uninterrupted access to essential services such as electricity, water, and heating.

Impact: This support is particularly crucial during extreme weather conditions when utility services are most needed for safety and health.

School Supplies and Sports Scholarships:

Objective: Support children’s education and personal development by providing the necessary supplies for school and opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities.

Impact: By investing in our youth, we help them succeed academically and socially, fostering a sense of belonging and confidence that extends beyond the classroom.

Medical Bills:

Objective: Alleviate the financial burden of unexpected healthcare expenses that can destabilize families already facing difficulties.

Impact: This assistance allows families to focus on recovery and well-being without the added stress of unmanageable medical costs.

Job Search Assistance and Community Connect Services:

Objective: Help individuals find employment opportunities and connect with community resources that promote long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

Impact: By addressing employment and resource access, we contribute to a more stable and self-sustaining community, reducing the risk of future crises.

Sandy Police Department’s Shop With A Cop Program:

Objective: Provide children from low-income families with the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts alongside

local police officers, fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.

Impact: This program not only brings joy to children during the holiday season but also builds trust and rapport

between the police department and the community, promoting a sense of safety and mutual respect.

Application + Approval

To ensure that our resources are allocated fairly and effectively, the Community Kindness Program has a structured application and approval process:

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must reside within the community we serve and demonstrate a genuine need for assistance. Assistance is limited to two times per

calendar year to ensure broad access to the fund.

Application Submission: Applicants complete a detailed application form, providing personal information, the reason for the request, and any supporting documentation.

Board Review: Each application is carefully reviewed by the Community Kindness Program board, which evaluates the applicant's circumstances and makes a decision to approve, modify, or deny the request.

Notification and Disbursement: Applicants are notified of the board's decision within

two weeks. Approved funds are typically disbursed directly to service providers to ensure that the assistance is used for its intended purpose.

Opportunities for community partners

We are always looking to expand our network of community partners who share our

commitment to supporting those in need. There are several ways that interested

organizations, businesses, and individuals can get involved with the Community Kindness Program:

Financial Contributions:

Direct donations can be one-time or ongoing financial support to sustain operations.

Sponsorship Opportunities: Sponsors can support specific initiatives, aligning their brand with the program’s mission.

Volunteering:

Organizations and individuals can volunteer their time to assist with events or provide expertise in areas like financial counseling, job training, or legal assistance.

In-Kind Donations:

Goods and Services: Businesses can donate items or professional services to benefit those in need.

Gift Matching:

Companies can match employee donations to double the impact.
